Finest Imaginary

Happy hump day Friends,

We are halfway through another week – woohoo! The fabulous Nikki McWilliams introduced me to the work of today’s creator and I am extremely glad that she did. The “About Us” section of the Finest Imaginary website says that their creations are “A mix of modern aesthetic, style and colour, the designs are sure to bring a little fun into your everyday”. Boy oh boy are they right!  From their terrarium necklaces to their beautifully crafted dogs, their shop will leave all acrylic jewellery lovers giddy with excitement. Now, without further ado, I will hand you over to the mastermind behind Finest Imaginary to tell you more about this exciting business…

  1. Who are you and what do you do?

Hello! I’m Kim, a born and raised Yorkshire lass, excessive coffee drinker, and championship cusser. I studied Interactive Arts at university, before spending a few years in creative-agency land before quitting the day job to live the work-for-yourself dream. I simultaneously run a one-woman-shop web design business alongside my creative brand, Finest Imaginary.
  1. How/where/why did Finest Imaginary begin?

I really needed a creative outlet from my day job. I was stuck behind a laptop all day working on client projects that were pretty… dry! I started Finest Imaginary as a way to keep my creative mind active. Initially, I just used to work on the coffee table in the evenings and weekends, but soon got my own box-room office before graduating to a bigger studio room in my house!
  1. What inspires your designs?

I’m inspired by So. Many. Things! I basically just make things that I enjoy and would wear myself. I’m also really inspired by the materials I used to make my jewellery, and the colours that the materials come in. I’m also a big fan of pop culture, mid-century design, the outdoors, and animals.
  1. Who inspires you?

So many of my peers inspire me, it’d be difficult to name names, but I’m constantly inspired by anyone who steps out of the comfort zone and creates work that they then show the world. That takes guts!
  1. What tools do you use to create your designs?

Everything starts (usually) with pencil & paper (I love my blackwing pencils!), and then gets transferred into illustrator on my laptop! My laser cut designs are all cut on my wonderful in-house laser cutter.
  1. What is your favourite item to make?

I love piecing together my terrarium jewellery, they’re like little 3D jigsaws!
  1. What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Nothing beats Anthony Burrills sage advice of “Work Hard & Be Nice to People”

It’s hard to argue with that piece of advice! If you would like to discover more about Finest Imaginary and their wonderful work, click on the links below:
