When a dragon comes to stay

Written by Caryl Hart

Illustrated by Rosalind Beardshaw

When a dragon comes to stay is a playful look at encouraging children’s manners in everyday life. The book is written by Caryl Hart in rhyme and is wonderful to read aloud. This book covers playtime, dinner time, bath time and bedtime but isn’t preachy or serious.

Older children will also enjoy chanting “Why no dragons don’t do that” which is repeated throughout the book.

Caryl Hart is a children’s book author who lives in Sheffield. Caryl began writing children’s book after believing that she could do better than some of the books she had read in the library. Approximately 10 years and 50 books later… We think she was right.

The story is accompanied by illustrations of the cutest dragon by Rosalind Beardshaw. Rosalind lives in York and is often joined in her studio by her lovely lurcher called Basil. Rosalind is the illustrator behind the National Trust: A Walk in the Countryside series.

I love the little details in Rosalind’s pictures, including sneaking in an illustration of the characters reading a copy of her book “Warthog”.

VERDICT

A playful look at manners. I hope a little dragon will stay at my house.
