THE STORY/THE AUTHORS

“But I see your true colors
Shining through
I see your true colors
And that’s why I love you
So don’t be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful
Like a rainbow”

“True Colors” features the song lyrics written by American songwriters Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly. The song was written for Cyndi Lauper and, when it was released in 1986, it reached number one in the charts. Cyndi Lauper later went on to name her charity “True Colorado Fund”. The charity aims to “end homelessness among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning youth, creating a world where all young people can be their true selves” (truecolorsfund.org).
